Pomegranates seeds in my mouth
Fills me with acid sweetness
I pluck them one by one
As a child plucks wildflowers
Pomegranates and saffron in my mind
Remind me of forbidden nights
When we loved in what seemed forever
Outside in the summer sun
Pomegranates and lilacs in my hands
Dreaming of lost innocence
Where I was forever free
Safe and unaffected by the world
Pomegranates and butterflies in my heart
Where I store a false joy
With fantasies sweet and beautiful
But realities sour and brief
