Closer than Ever
by John Björling

There are many things I ought to regret
Thoughtless crimes I should never forget
But in this haze of all things passed
There is just one that will still last
And of this thing I do not speak
For in the night I’m still so weak
That her name alone still makes me fret

I always wondered what went so wrong
Why did we end our perfect song?
But there were no answers to be found
No tokens or clues upon the ground
For everything I thought was true
Had disappeared before us two
So our journey ended before too long

And so it struck me, then and there
That all was just and still so fair
For she had melted in my hand
Our love of stone had turned to sand
And I could never see the source
Of her love, now harshly cold and coarse
Which neither man nor god can bear

The might of truths then struck me twice
And released the devils of tricks and vice
So all of those rooms that contain our charms
Where hands were held, where arms crossed arms
Could finally light up from shade
And let the blossoms slowly fade
For both of us had paid the price

And with these words I smile at last
My love is free and in the past
And though we will not touch again
And she will dance with other men
I remember fondly those times we had
A kiss of memory still makes me glad
For life is grand and love is vast
